Redeck Roof Replacement, Partial or Full, in Queens

Redeck roof work means Foundry Roofing tears off the old roof, cuts out rotted plywood, OSB or plank sheathing, and lays a new deck on multi-family, commercial and single-family buildings. Partial or full, the job matches the damage.

The estimate is free: we probe the deck and hand you a written price before tear-off.

Comparison

Partial redeck or full redeck for your building

Every redeck roof job turns on one question: how much of the deck still holds a fastener.

Compare Usual after a tear-off Partial redeck Sheet replacement Full redeck Down to the framing
When it fits Soft spots at drains, chimneys or skylights Widespread rot or a sagging roofline
What gets replaced Rotted sheets or plank runs only Every sheet, down to the framing
Deck inspection Probed sheet by sheet after tear-off Framing checked for rot and sag
Schedule Little added time Adds a deck stage before underlayment
Typical buildings Single-family, small multi-family Older mixed-use, apartment, commercial

When rot reaches the framing, the redeck becomes one stage of a full damaged-roof replacement.

Deck types

Plank, plywood, OSB or steel: the decks we rebuild

Queens buildings sit on four deck types, and each fails differently.

  • Wood plank

Older row houses and mixed-use buildings.

    Boards rot at the seams.

  • Plywood

    Single-family and small multi-family.

    Plies delaminate after repeated leaks.

  • OSB

    Newer infill.

Edges swell and the strands crumble.

  • Steel deck

    Warehouses, retail and commercial buildings.

Flutes rust under wet insulation, so we start with a rust check on the steel deck.

Process

Sheet by sheet, before the new roof goes on

After tear-off we walk the bare deck, mark soft spots and check the underside for mold. Rotted sheets are cut back to sound framing, and new 5/8-inch CDX plywood goes down with ring-shank nails at 6 inches on the edges and 12 in the field. The deck carries load again.

Only then does underlayment go on, under new shingles or a flat roof replacement such as a TPO membrane over the fresh deck.

  • 5/8"CDX plywood
  • 6"Nails at edges
  • 12"Nails in field

FAQ

Before you sign for a new deck

How do I know the deck needs replacing?

Four signs: a spongy feel underfoot, a sagging roofline, interior leaks, and mold on the underside of the deck.

Can you price a redeck before the old roof is off?

Yes. The quote covers visible damage plus a set per-sheet price for rot found mid-job, photographed before replacement.

Can you redeck an occupied co-op, condo or apartment building?

Yes. Tenants stay in, and the roof is closed up watertight every evening.

How does payment work on a redeck job?

In stages, as set out in how we schedule payments on a redeck job.
