Four roofs, four ways to fail

Church grounds usually carry several roof systems, each failing in its own place.

Why church roofs are steep

Steep pitch, tall lines and what both mean for the crew

Why the pitch

Church roofs are often pitched at 45 degrees or steeper because the slope sheds rain and snow before water can sit on the slate. The height is part of the architecture too.

How we work on it

That pitch sets how we work. Our crew installs roof anchors and staging before anyone walks the slope, and reaches the steeple by scaffold or lift to replace its base flashing in copper. Replacement slate is matched for thickness and color, so the repair does not show.

Roof work around services

Your parish calendar sets the schedule

Will the work disrupt the congregation? We plan it so it does not.

Worship days stay quiet

We work from the parish calendar and stay off the roof during Sunday services, weddings and funerals.

Sanctuary and glass protected

Pews and the altar area are covered, and stained glass is shielded from outside while we work overhead.

One contact for the trustees

One project lead reports to the committee with dated photos after each work day.

Church roof questions

What committees ask before they sign

Do you repair an old slate church roof or replace it?

An inspection decides. Sound slate often outlasts its nails, so we reset slipped and broken pieces first and recommend full church roof replacement only when the slate or deck has failed.

Do you handle the parish hall's flat roof as well as the sanctuary?

Yes, on the same visit and estimate. Low-slope halls and school wings usually take a single-ply TPO or EPDM membrane.

Is the estimate free, and do you inspect first?

Yes to both. We begin with a written roof inspection with photos, and the free estimate is priced from its findings.
