Before and after

Same roof, the day we arrived and the day we left

Drag each slider to compare the roof we found with the roof we handed back.

After: new fully adhered membrane over tapered insulation on a Jackson Heights apartment building roof Before: ponding water and failed seams on the flat roof of a Jackson Heights apartment building Before After
Pair 01 · Flat roof replacement

Jackson Heights, apartment building

Ponding water and failed seams across the flat roof. We removed it and installed a new fully adhered membrane over tapered insulation that pitches toward the drains.

After: bright silicone roof coating over the restored roof of a Maspeth warehouse Before: cracked, chalking roof surface on a Maspeth warehouse Before After
Pair 02 · Coating restoration

Maspeth, warehouse

Cracked, chalking surface over a dry substrate, so replacement was not needed. We cleaned, primed and applied silicone, and the steps behind this warehouse coating restoration are laid out coat by coat.

After: new counterflashing and resealed coping joints on the parapet walls of a Ridgewood mixed-use building Before: water staining and open joints at the parapet walls of a Ridgewood mixed-use building Before After
Pair 03 · Parapet leak repair

Ridgewood, mixed-use building

Water entering at the parapet walls. New counterflashing and resealed coping joints stopped it.

What good workmanship looks like in a photo

Zoom in on these four details

Wide shots of a clean membrane prove very little. Water attacks the edges, drains and seams first, so that is where the photo should be sharp. Apply this to any roofer's pictures, ours included.

  • Flashing turned up the parapet walls and tucked under counterflashing or coping, with no caulk standing in for metal.
  • Drains and scuppers clear, so the roof sheds water.
  • Seams fully welded or lapped. Look for lifted edges.
  • At handover, a clean job site with no loose fasteners or scrap.
