Wind damage

What hurricane wind does to a roof

Wind uplift is a pressure difference. Fast air moving over the roof lowers the pressure above it, and the roofing is pulled up from below. Membrane edges peel back at the perimeter, and shingles lift along rakes and ridges.

Wind-driven rain follows. It moves sideways, into open seams and behind loose flashing.

  • Missing shingles
  • Coping displaced from the parapet
  • Ceiling leaks on the top floor

Hurricane repairs by building type

Each building type fails its own way

Our specialty

Multi-family, co-op and condominium flat roofs

TPO, EPDM and modified bitumen lift at the edges as coping and flashing pull loose. We re-secure the perimeter and handle patching of the lifted membrane.

Our specialty

Commercial and mixed-use roofs

Membrane and parapet flashing take the worst of the wind. Work is scheduled around tenants so the building stays open.

Single-family pitched roofs

Expect missing shingles and torn step flashing. We install matching shingles and reflash walls and chimneys.

Hurricane roof repair questions

After the storm: what owners ask us

How fast can you get to my roof after a hurricane?

Usually the same day you call. Open roofs and active leaks go first, and the temporary seal goes on during that visit.

Do you document the damage for my insurance claim?

Yes. Every failure point is photographed and listed in a written report before permanent work begins, which gives your adjuster what the claim needs.

What if the roof is too damaged to repair?

Then the inspection report says so plainly. When torn membrane runs across the field or the deck underneath is soaked, patches will not hold, and replacing the hurricane-damaged roof is the better spend.
